About the Project
This 305,000 square foot project is a new 200 bus facility to expand bus storage and bus maintenance capacity for both standard and articulated buses, built on 17 acres of property located at 300 and 350 Northfield Drive in Waterloo.
The Region of Waterloo’s Grand River Transit Bus Maintenance Facility will provide the necessary fleet maintenance and storage required to meet transit ridership goals established in the Regional Transportation Master Plan and the Grand River Transit Business Plan. It will accommodate Mobility Plus vehicles, regular buses and articulating buses; articulating buses will be introduced to the fleet beginning in 2021.
Pursuing a minimum LEED® Silver Certification this is an energy-efficient/sustainable construction project and includes energy conserving mechanical and electrical equipment, fixtures and controls. The construction of the facility will include reduction, sorting and monitoring of construction waste and site impact.
Shovels will soon be in the ground! Construction begins this spring, with completion in the summer of 2022.
Magil is very happy to partner with the Region of Waterloo again. Together we recently completed their New LEED Silver Paramedic Headquarters on Erb Street.
